faint alcohol taste. I prefer the darker end of the virginia spectrum. I like blends with a lot of red virginia. This one is saved a little for me by the condiment tobaccos which give the golden virginias more substance. I really don't like dark fired though. I think C&D use it far too often (esp. in GLP blends). I got this as a free sample and otherwise probably wouldn't have bought any of this. I'm glad that I tried it but just too much golden virginia for my tastes. It does make a good summer smoke though but I don't think it's going to replace Beacon for me in that regard. My favorite Dark Fired blend, I could smoke it everyday. This has a very nice aroma and a light sweet prominent flavor. It does smoke hot rather quick. I’ve since ordered more, one of my favorites

They appear to dissect those spectacular embraced the dark Virginias kentucky fire and a well perique long and thin.
When turned on, it stings a little bit (not little) and the first thing that embraces the mouth is the kentucky, something reminiscent smell of dry wood for the fireplace. Though it may not sound like a positive note, there were subtle hints of burning wood chips, that somehow really worked for me. It created a wonderfully cool and wholly unique smoke. Bravo! nd would do well with some age to it, like others stated. You do need to slow it down and take your time or it will burn hot. Room note not overpowering, no complaints from the boss on it. The flavor is smooth and creamy with some pepper off the Perique in the background. There's a little bourbon in the side stream but nothing too strong. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of lemon grass, sweet bread, wood, earth, tangy raisin, floral, mild dry nuts, mild baking spices, and a moderately peppery retro. hint bourbon is only noticeable if you had a straight VaPer to compare to; and it’s a welcome sweet subtle presence.
This cheerful flavor with warm aroma is constant till the end as all the tobacco slowly turns to white ash. An easy light, forgiving smoke, is enjoyed with a good steady cadence.
*Update*
After picking up another tin, it is for sure my 2nd favorite blend of all time. I transitioned to smoking in a bent brandy Peterson. For whatever reason, the spice really comes out of the Perique in the Briar; where it’s more of a supporting role out of the Meerschaum. Pairs nicely with a citrus ale or tea. The Kentucky really brings a robust cigar-like flavor that settles into the room note in welcome way. The bourbon and perhaps the Virginias impart a sweetness on the roof our your mouth working with that room note that stays in the nose a while after a smoke. I love this blend.

onth and haven't thought about it till today. Decided to give it another go. The smell was the same bacony/pepper but lighting it up just left me with stinging smoke to the eyes and not much in the flavor department. More like hot smoke and the smell wasn't good either. I ended up getting about halfway through the bowl and gave up on it. I'll probably put this back on the shelf for a while but that's about it. I hope the sample wasn't representative of a regular tin. I smoked both bowls in a cob. Read Less

Enjoyed the aroma but that's about all. The first taste that hit me was of wet leather & a strong burn on the tongue out of my Savinelli Churchwarden. This was a sample I was given so I'm not sure if it was truly representative.

the pipe. Taste will improve when you smoke it in a Corn Cob, cause it absorbs the moisture better. I think C&D knows about the fact, that this blend is straight out of the tin too young to enjoy. That must be the reason that they recommend ageing. I give this blend only two stars, plus a half for ageing potential it surely has. Read Less
