To be fair, I am not a cigar guy, so your mileage may vary greatly with this blend. All I tasted from start to mid-bowl when I had to put the pipe down was cigar. None of the other component tobaccos came through at all for me, not even the typical perique spice.
I'm rating this a 1 star for me, and will cellar the 2 oz I bought and see what it's light in 6 months or so. Read Less

I smoked for 20 years and quit for 17. But, just started pipe smoking this year. Trying a lot of tobacco and none that I dislike. This one is great. It's like licking an ashtray. That ashy taste followed by an aromatic yields intense contrast.

开罐一股子咸鱼+臭豆腐的味道。抽起来这股味道倒是没那么明显。虽说有L草但基本抽不出来。这是一款以白肋为主的草，过鼻非常刺激，可见P草含量也不低。味道也是白肋烟的味儿，有点像同门下的闹鬼书店，但是却没有书店的甜感。尼古丁含量很高，室韵很差。当你烟瘾犯了的时候来上这么一斗确实很解瘾。

ying "Smoke this, it's real good, don't analyze it!" Well I guess I am anyway. I love blends with layers of complexity, but a lot of times I grab a C&D blend because it's simple and good. The blend itself is delicious to me. I concur with Zombie Gentleman about it's chocolate note which I think comes from C&D's granulated perique (I got some of their blender perique and it smelled of dry chocolate cake mix and wood ear mushrooms) and it also has a round base note of bitterness like french roast coffee, plus the expected black pepper and fig. This is very low rated and I think I know why. This particular blend didn't grab me at first and for a good reason, it hurt. I got a sample and felt that it was pretty moist, so naturally I dried it out a lot. It wrecked the roof of my mouth but good. A week later I tried it again, this time drying out more... much worst. I had it in a mason jar (it is so hard to throw away tobacco) and 4 or 6 months latter I had learned something about at least my body chemistry, blends with a lot of perique, like a newly found C&D favorite Kajun Kake, like to be moist. I thought back to that jar of Bayou Night and remember that it was fifty percent perique. I tried it again and packed a bowl fully moist and found it to be amazing cool smoking and bite-less. It is spicy at the mid-bowl mark but it wasn't damaging my mouth at all. It is now a blend that I grab when I want to be sure I don't get bit. Night and day difference. Try it again if this sound like you first experience, I'm glad I did! Read Less

blend is made of excellent tobaccos and the Perique is delicious, but a bit to spicy for my preference. It's also higher in nicotine. Kind of a "no, duh" but I wasn't prepared for it. If you are a Perique lover and enjoy english style blends I would highly recommend it. I would also only recommend it for somewhat experienced pipe smokers. If you're new to the craft, hold off on this one and work your way to it after you get yourself tuned in some. Read Less

河口之夜和闹鬼书店很相似，比起闹鬼的酒香前调，我更喜欢他酸酸的味道，估计Perique用量不少。中后调有Virginia的甜，淡淡的；完全没有英式混合Latakia的皮革味，但保留了淡淡的奶香。尼古丁含量可不低，但神奇的是烟气浓郁的同时却不咬舌，好东西，是我想要的斗草。目前感受比闹鬼书店要舒服，继续品尝品尝。

e nearly extinct Elizabethan Blend from Dunhill. One could argue that this what the Elizabethan Blend wants to be when it grows up. It hits all the right notes for me, the latakia elements really balance the Virginias and the perique ties it all together. Mainly burley and a crap ton of perique...with just a sprinkle of the other tobaccos added for character. Good, strong smoke but pretty intense on the spice so some folks might not like it for that. Worth a try tho!

, I love the Lakeland ropes. I think I just don't get along with CnD blends. Back in the 90's when Craig Tarler was running it, he had something called, "Hoover blend," which was basically the table sweepings he collected off his blending surface. Every few years I try another CnD tobacco and get a sense of Hoover Blend.
Having said that, I also got a tin of Bayou AM which is smokeable. This one is just... well, fecal. Read Less

It's not that it's a bad blend, on the contrary. It has nice nuttiness and light smokiness as well as a dash of spice. But it does bite back a little if your a quick smoker.

Half way through I had to dump it. Same thing three more times. Long story short, I did not feel like blending to making it taste better so I dumped it and chalked it up to learning experience. A lot of people like it and we all have different tastes. For me, the Perique and the Latakia were at war with each other. is just gross. I'd describe it as falling somewhere between a locker room and a cesspool. Ugh! It motivates you to pack the pipe quickly so you can close that jar, that's for sure.
It lights easily and burns quickly, which is a mercy because I did not enjoy anything about this tobacco. Its nicotine content is very high, as some have noted. It has a cigarette-y harshness and thinness, and the retro-hale is, while not as "scatological" as the bag note, distinctly unpleasant.
To each his own. I will try again with this mixture but am not a fan. Yuck. Read Less

co-mingling with the nutty and woody burley. The stoved VA offers itself with a deeper flavor and more subdued sweetness. The orientals appear more pronounced around midbowl but still come forward as herbal, slightly earthy.....almost hinting at fungal, with slight floral undertones. The latakia compliments the richer profile of the VA but isn't aggresive in any sense of the word; I have to really concentrate to isolate it from this blend's overall complexity. Not being a huge fan of perique, I can't offer it more than 3 stars but believe a perique lover would easily give this another star at least. I would give it 4/5 stars for complexity only because the latakia is too far hidden for me to grant a clean sweep in that respect. Overall this blend is a suitable blend for the experienced piper and offers an enjoyable smoke.
Smoked fresh in a Savinelli 673ks. Burns cool down to a fine ash with no bite and minimal relights. It generates very little moisture during smoking. Read Less

burley to quickly dominate the entire profile of the smoke. The latakia whispers every once in a while but never has a chance to shine for long. Halfway into the bowl it transitions into a bitter "bad cigar" like mouth feel and taste. The nicotine is a bit much towards the end to the point the juice just isn't worth the squeeze. I don't mind a stronger kicking but this just seems like getting suckerpunched for no good reason. After a half dozen bowls I'm not a fan of this blend. I know lots of people enjoy Bayou Night. I usually avoid blends with Perique in them as they overpower every thing else. In this blend the Perique is there but don't overpower the other tobaccos. Try it, I think you will like it.

When dried out some the aroma gets downright strange yet still wonderful. It smokes fantastic, with the perique out front and the Turkish and burley never far away. Bayou Night may be too potent for new smokers, but for the initiated it is deeply satisfying and I found myself reaching for it every night and sometimes first thing in the morning even. It's worth mentioning that this is quite different than Bayou morning, which is also quite powerful. I recommend trying both if you love perique. Read Less
