About This Pipe
Russian-American carver Alex Florov often points to Lars and Nanna Ivarsson as sources of inspiration, particularly citing their tear drop shank and its sheer impact on the shape of pipes today. While the original inspiring shape (indeed many touches, such as the ivory at the mount and form of the bit) is Ivarssonian, the totality of the form is unabashedly Florov. Balancing the lava-like ripples of the grain on the bowl, the shank shows a delightful pattern of such regularity, the sides almost resemble matte Damascus steel.
