Cornell & Diehl - Jolly Old Saint Nicholas 2oz
2022 Jolly Old St Nicholas
A great Christmas season tobacco. Easy burning ribbon cut. The orange liqueur and ginger are present without being overpowering, or otherwise too much. Great room note. Many compliments. Highly recommend.

Books - Pipe Smoking in Middle Earth: The Fellowship of the Smoke Ring 3rd Edition by Mark Irwin
A must have
A great read. Lots of fun. Filled with great illustrations. A must-read for any pipe smoker and any fan of the Tolkien books! A great Christmas gift too!

Replacement Stems - Peterson Semi-Bent System P-Lip Stem
Perfect fit
I bought 3 of these to replace fishtail stems on my 305, 313, and 317. They fit perfectly. I've also tried them (just to see) on 304, 312, & 314; all my system pipes. They fit perfectly on those shapes as well. These are acrylic, so they're a good replace for a vulcanite stem that's gone green.

Newminster - No.48 Danish Gold
Nice aromatic
Yes, a nice aromatic. Rather typical combination of Virginia, Burley and Black; but keep in mind there's a reason why this combination is so popular. The top dressing does give it a unique flavor and room note that makes it certainly worth trying for anyone who is fond of similar blends. If you already like that blend and are looking for something just a little bit (but not too much) different, this is certainly worth a try.

Lighters - Kiribi Kenshi Black Matte
Glad I bought this
I hesitated for a long time before buying this type of lighter. First of all, if you're considering one, they take BUTANE fuel. While that's obvious to someone already familiar with this type of lighter, to someone who isn't familiar, it's need-t-know. The lighter has a good, solid feel. It's heavy in a good way. It does light quickly, and the flint system is much more reliable than the more common electric type. Yes, there's the disadvantage of needing to replace the flint, but that's really no trouble at all. They're cheap enough, and it's easy to keep a supply on hand. It's a worthwhile tradeoff. If you're considering getting one, DO IT. You won't be disappointed.

Books - The Pipes of Basil Rathbone’s Sherlock Holmes 2nd Edition by Mark Irwin
A MUST HAVE
Any fan of either Peterson pipes or Sherlock Holmes (esp. both) MUST have and MUST READ this book. Yes, you must. You will love this book. Be sure to get an extra copy to leave near the TV. You'll be glad you did it, and sorely disappointed if you don't.

Stands & Pouches - 1790 English Tobacco Box German Silver with Eagle
Great little box
I admit, I don't use it for tobacco, but...well, so what? It's still a great little box for carrying small items, and it sits on my desk as a wonderful conversation piece. I'm thrilled with it.

Prince Albert - Prince Albert 14oz
Everyone should have some around
There's a reason Prince Albert has been around so long. Yes, it's a great Burley. Clean burning. Wonderful room aroma. Just the right amount of cocoa and molasses to add a bit of flavor to the smoke without overpowering like some aromatics can do. If you want a no nonsense, easy smoking burley, this is for you. If you're reading this, try it. You won't be disappointed--no matter what "they" might say.

Peterson - De Luxe Mixture 50g
Another Peterson great
A wonderful aromatic. Complex and rather sweet. A must try for aromatic lovers.

Peterson - Elizabethan Mixture 50g
Cool and easy
A cool and easy smoke. An any-day, any-time Virginia that won't let you down.

Cornell & Diehl - Blockade Runner 2oz
Great Virginia rum
A terrific Virginia cake, heavy on the rum. A must try.

Cleaners & Cleaning Supplies - B. J. Long Regular Pipe Cleaners (56 pack)
The best
The best pipe cleaners on the market today. No need to look elsewhere.

Sutliff - D64 Queen Anne's Revenge
A great aromatic
A terrific aromatic, very heavy in the rum department. If you like a rum cavendish, this is for you!

Stands & Pouches - Grafton Leather Pipe Stand
Simple and elegant
The perfect stand for a Peterson pipe. A must have.

Stands & Pouches - Economy Folding Pipe Stand
Almost perfect
First of all, a "must have." We all have those places around the house (or where ever else) that we sometimes just need to set a pipe down. Given the cost, there's no reason not-to-have a few of these around. When not being used, they fold flat and out of the way. The only downside is that a pipe can easily come loose and it's a bit difficult to get the pipe to sit perfectly straight. Then again, that's what more expensive holders and racks are all about. This is ideal for someone who needs an extra place to set a pipe (maybe temporarily), or doesn't have that one more available spot on the rack(s). If you are even slightly considering buying one (and you probably are, if you're reading this review), my message to you is this: just buy one. It's less than a buck. You can't go wrong. You'll be happy you did it. And if you don't like it, so what? It didn't cost you much anyway. Give it to a friend.

Carter Hall - Carter Hall 14oz
A very nice traditional American tobacco
Nothing fancy here. This is the type of tobacco pipe smokers bought when they were just looking for a good, honest tobacco. It won't impress anyone who wants to see a fancy label. Just a good, honest smoke.

Paladin - Black Cherry 1.5oz
In your face CHERRY
Yes, this is a cherry tobacco. Nothing subtle about it. If you want something that barely reminds you of cherry, look elsewhere. If you want intense cherry aroma and flavor, the kind of aroma that makes the neighbors a block away wonder why they can smell cherries, this is your new favorite tobacco. I've been smoking this since 1985. Best cherry tobacco on the market, hands down.

Peterson - Connoisseur's Choice 50g
Great tobacco, but has its shortcomings
This blend has a wonderful aroma and taste. It does require some work. Needs to be "fluffed" a bit from the can. It can be difficult to keep lit, but when it's burning, the taste and room note are amazing. More fruity than classic tobacco, for a smoker who is looking for such, I recommend

Lane Limited - 1-Q
Among the best
For a Cavendish, Virginia aromatic, this is just wonderful. It has the classic aromatic tobacco aroma, both in the jar, and the room note. Burns clean. Better than other, similar brands.

Tampers & Tools - Pipe Nail
Best temper
Best pipe tamper made. Edges are rounded, so they don't scrape when tamping. Simple. Gets the job done. Nothing fancy or complicated. Cheap enough to own several and easy enough to replace if lost. Highly recommend.

    How to Date Orlik Tobacco
  • ► That is truly good information for anyone interested in cellaring. I just started doing that myself, so it'll be years before I see any real results. While it's nice to know HOW to date Orlik tobacco tins, what I would like to know is whether or not Orlik is even still producing their tobaccos. It seems the only variety I can find is Golden Sliced, other than whatever old stock a retailer might happen to have around. I cannot get any reliable information on what, if anything at all, they currently make. Is there anyone out there who can post some accurate information on this?
