What's in your Humidor?: Smokingpipes' Truett Smith, Pipe Manager

What's in your Humidor? | Daily Reader

In a world with an abundance of cigars, it can be difficult to choose your next smoke. But much like homework in high school, there is an easy solution to this problem: Copy someone else's work. Welcome to What's in your Humidor?, the series where I ask interesting people in the tobacco world what they keep stocked in their humidor. This week, it's Smokingpipes' Truett Smith. Truett is our resident pipe manager behind the scenes here but you probably know him best from Mystery Review and his articles on the Daily Reader. What's in your humidor, Truett?

What cigar are you currently smoking and why do you love it?

Dapper's La Madrina Lonsdale Smokingpipes! I've always enjoyed Dapper's La Madrina blend, but this Lonsdale size takes it to an even higher level. The flavor profile is exceptionally balanced between sweet and spicy notes; there's enough complexity to keep me interested, but it's not so subtle that I have to devote all of my attention to the cigar. Everything from construction to flavor is perfect, and it's been my go-to smoke as of late.

What are your current favorites in your humidor?

  1. Dapper: La Madrina Lonsdale Smokingpipes
  2. El Septimo: Michelangelo
  3. Caldwell: Eastern Standard Cream Crush
  4. ADVentura: The Royal Return: Queen's Pearls Robusto
  5. Lost & Found: 22 Minutes to Midnight Connecticut Radiante Corona Deluxe
  6. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust: Sobremesa Brûlée Double Corona

Tell us why you love a secondary choice

Gotta be El Septimo: Michelangelo. El Septimo's Michelangelo has been my "treat-yoself" smoke recently. It's one of those cigars I turn to when I have something to celebrate (even if it's simply the weekend) and have time and space to devote my entire attention to what I'm smoking. As a cigar, it's smooth, sweet, rich, complex, and nuanced. It's the type of cigar fit for dessert.

What are you currently eyeing for your next smoke?

We've added a number of brands and cigars to Smokingpipes in recent months, many of which I have yet to get familiar with. I'm looking forward to exploring Atabay's, Byron's, and J. London's portfolios more in the near future.

What smoke are you bothering your friends to try?

Call me a broken record, but honestly, Dapper: La Madrina Lonsdale Smokingpipes. It's limited-production, and it really is that good.

What do you enjoy with your smoke?

I'm pretty boring when it comes to smoke-and-drink pairings; I like experiencing a cigar's flavor by itself. However, I will often listen to podcasts or watch Premier League soccer while enjoying a smoke.

Thoughtful answers, and possibly motivating for those who have not experienced some of Truett's favorites. Are you intrigued by any of Truett's preferences? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for next time. Happy smokes!
