Moonshine: Natural Smooth Hillbilly with Amber Stem Tobacco Pipe

Leaning into Moonshine's Appalachian identity and rural, practical ethos, the Hillbilly is a compact Billiard in Nosewarmer proportions that boasts a rugged, functional appeal. The design features a wide transition and a brief, slim shank paired to a sleekly tapering stem, the combination's short reach making this shape an excellent option for travel smoking. Additionally, the slender shank and stem contribute to an impressively light weight, making the Hillbilly eminently portable and easy to tuck into a pocket or to smoke hands-free. Up front, the bowl stands on a firm, rounded heel and grows supple, subtly curvaceous walls that make a gentle arc to the flattened rim and aptly insulate a compact chamber. A timeless take on a classic shape in reserved dimensions, the Hillbilly is well-suited to the rigors of workhorse use, an excellent option for taking on-the-go, and an excellent option to expand any pipe collection.

Every Moonshine stummel is carved on CNC (computer numerical control) machines at the BriarWorks factory in Columbia, Tennessee. Though each individual pipe is based on pre-established templates for consistent shaping across renditions, the stem-fitting and finishing processes are entirely hand-applied by the American workshop's team of artisans: Pete Prevost, Bill Shalosky, Micah Redmond, and Sam Adebayo. All four men are artisan pipe makers in their own rights, and BriarWorks' production model of combining mass-production processes with hand-applied, artisanal techniques results in modestly priced pipes with the engineering and aesthetic quality of handmade work. This particular Moonshine example wears the workshop's Natural smooth finish, showcasing the briar's natural color palette and promoting a patina with time and use.
