Manduela: Smooth Bent Dublin with Bone Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-747-0042

Known for her refined, precise, and elegant line work and crisp, faceted style, Manduela Riger-Kusk elevates the aesthetic principles established by her mentor, the late Poul Ilsted. The elder Dane was known for his architectural, paneled pipe designs, and Manduela continues that style through her own work, embellishing and evolving it according to her own creative interpretation. This bent Dublin is one such example, presenting Manduela's take on one of Ilsted's recognizable shapes.

The two defining elements of this bent Dublin are the shank and rim, and Manduela has clearly shaped them to evoke the style of Ilsted's version. Crisply paneled, the shank mimics that of a Bulldog, but with additional panels along the flanks, while the rim's concave curvature is oriented against the pipe's central axis for a touch of playful asymmetry. The soft, curving style of the rim is a stark, eye-catching contrast against the shank's rigid design, but it merges well with the shank and stem's sinuous curves to create a complete composition that beautifully adheres opposing design styles. Continuing the shank's flanking facets through the stem, Manduela has integrated the hand-cut mouthpiece into the pipe's overall design, and its accent of pale bone lends a handsome contrast to the stummel's burgundy stain.
