Misc. Estates: Michal Novak Smooth Freehand (14001) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-008-10563

Czechian pipe maker Michal Novak possesses a highly expressive style that's steeped in organicism, one that's most recognized by its use of pronounced, free-flowing ridges, with such a design cue even being found on his more classically-inclined pieces. Seen here is an especially striking Freehand from Novak, its hefty, towering figure filling the palm effortlessly. Said bowl stands with a forward-urging posture, its strapping physique formed by muscular, insulating walls that show a Dublin-like flare as they reach from the rounded heel toward the craggy, plateau-capped rim, housing an exceptionally deep chamber for lengthy smoking sessions. Characteristic of his style, the bowl is wrapped in a series of undulating ridges that flow from the rim into a compact shank out back, which then pairs to a downturned saddle stem. The stummel wears a fetching chestnut stain that reveals lively vertical grain across the briar's expansive surface.
