I just translated the two "chinese review". One says:
"Police Dog No. 1 - Blue One Dog
No. 2 - Shennong."
The other says:
"The dog said about the 1,600 flavors".
QQ.com says:
"Foolproof paste" .

time as we don’t want to loose the beautiful nuances in this blend..very well behaved with very few relights.Fabulous smokes, medium to full flavor with mild kick vitamin N to my opinion.Smooth, sweet, dark, caramely, smoky, fruity, tangy, floral, nice sprinkle of spice and fragrant in retrohale with zero tongue bite.
Personally... this is an another winner by Gregory Pease.
The combo of Turkish Latakia,Stoved Red & Flue Cured VA and Oriental are in perfect balance creating an elegant smokes.A medium to full flavored English with lots going on..glad that this blend was not a limited run.Hahahha!😁😁😁
Yes,I do agree this one has a little hint of Quiet Nights..but this is a different league of uniqueness and much more smoother.Sit back, relax and enjoy this masterful blend!Highly recommended! Read Less

Somewhat similar to Quiet nights, but with a distinct mesquite sweetness in the latakia setting it apart. The end of the bowl reminds me of the sweetness of gaslight. Overall it is very different than both and i am contemplating assigning a single pi... Read More

Turkish Latakia?

I have a large stash of Syrian latakia which I use in blending, but all know that latakia does not age well.
While I enjoy some newer blends using Cyprian latakia I cannot shake the slightly Pine-Sol notes it gives, but do appreciate its creamy note... Read More

All that aside I do appreciate the use of Turkish Latakia. It's neither as heavy as Cyprian nor as subtle as Syrian.
It's a testament to Mr. Pease that he chose to incorporate this in the blend.
For those who appreciate a varied palate of smokiness, think BBQ or smoking woods, this blend is a splendid variant on a theme.
I enjoy this and will be buying more.
side note: another member of my pipe club who also "grew up" smoking Sobranie blends find this enjoyable. Read Less

I won't say much, but after my first tin, I ended up buying about 8 more. It actually reminds me of The merry monk and it is smooth, creamy, and an over all flavorful experience. I don't know much, but I know what I like, and if you like a good non-a... Read More

GL Pease makes some of my most favorite Oriental based blends and this is no exception but the star of the show is the latakia.

ne top note that tickles the nose at the bottom of the bowl.
The latakia is good with a smoky brown sugar and stone fruit essence over burnt toffee is my best explanation.
The flavor profile is a tic or two over medium but the power level is a tick or two under medium. This makes for a spicy blend that won't knock your socks off.
While this may seem just "another English blend", I think this is a new flavor profile in the spirit of an English blend.
Highly recommend to all Enthusiasts and newcomers looking for a unique flavor profile that is semi sweet with a spicy tang. Read Less

This does taste a tiny bit similar to Quiet Nights, but smoother, if you sip it and slow smoke it.
It's a definite step up from CD Sunset Harbor Flake, a bit more sophisticated and refined but close to and a bit milder than Quiet Nights.

I like the blend I pick up a hint of Lakeland in it.
It could be the pipe not sure. It would probably taste like an English from the 40’s or 50’s. Overall a good bold English with a retro style. Now to try with some scotch. Cheers!

This is a good solid blend, while the Latakia and the Oriental floral notes dance the line of soap on my palate, It never crosses the line. This is my first of the zetgeist line, can't wait to try the other two.

re of matured Red Virginias, Flue-cured Virginias, Turkish Latakia, and Oriental leaf, all pressed and sliced into flakes, Horizons boasts a sophisticated flavor profile that admirably balances rich smokiness with a gentle sweetness and an enticing spice.
Horizons is a new (Spring, 2024) blend. The strength is moderate, akin to a GLP’s Maltese Falcon, Wilke’s Blend 400, or Cornell & Diehl’s Pirate Kake or Captain Earle’s Mystic Blend, but is not as good as any of these. The Red Virginia brings a slight fermentation and a background of dark fruit but the main player here is the Turkish Latakia. The other Virginias and the Oriental leaf are subsumed.
The Latakia in Horizons sort of cuts off — that is, the blend lacks a lingering taste. The smokiness is certainly present, but it lacks the sweetness one might align with a campfire and has none of the BBQ tastes that show up in other blends.
As most people know, what distinguished Syrian Latakia was less the climate than the particular varieties of wood commonly available. As the political situationin Syria deteriorated over the last 15 years, the genius and talent of creating Latakia didn’t die off, but instead mostly shifted to the island of Cypress. Now some of the production is shifting to Turkey.
I’m not unhappy with Horizons but it does not stand out from the excellent crowd of moderate strength English blends. It is good but not stellar.
I’d give it 3 out of 4 stars. Read Less
