Smoke Rings: Agasaurus By Lost & Found, A Smokingpipes' Exclusive Cigar

Robert Caldwell of Lost & Found Cigars has just uncovered a riveting discovery. On September 4, Agasaurus will be released to the public, a 6" by 54 Perfecto Nicaraguan Puro, ready to mystify all who smoke it. Agasaurus is available only at Smokingpipes in very limited quantities.

Note: The following transcription has been edited for clarity and brevity.

[Tyler Caldwell]: Greetings, everyone. I'm Tyler Caldwell.

[Steve Mawby]: I'm Steve Mawby.

[TC]: And for all you naysayers out there saying that dinosaurs are extinct, well, I've got some news for you: we made a discovery here.

[SM]: We'd like to introduce you to our new friend, Agasaurus. Agasaurus comes in a 10-count bundle in the 6" x 54 Perfecto vitola. It is a Nicaraguan Puro, denoting pure Nicaraguan tobacco for anybody who doesn't speak cigar.

[TC]: Absolutely, if you are a fan of the Nicaraguan varietals, this is going to be right up your alley. So what's been most interesting to me about this release with the Agasaurus by Lost & Found is it pays more of a homage to their old mantra, where the cigars were lost, and then Lost & Found found them.

[SM]: Yeah, and they found 2,500 of 'em, so it's a very limited release. It's coming to Smokingpipes on Wednesday, September 4.

[TC]: That's right.

[SM]: It is a Smokingpipes' exclusive. Anybody who is into Nicaraguan tobaccos and the Lost & Found aesthetic, I think they're really going to be happy with this cigar. It has a really cool band. The artwork on this is awesome. You've got the dinosaur there that Robert Caldwell told us is the cousin of the Spinosaurus because he's an archeologist now. Really cool designs on everything and a really well-constructed cigar. I love the shape and the torpedo tips.

[TC]: Absolutely, and I've got to say, Lost & Found really knocked it out of the park with the whole design, the engineering of the logo, and the message behind it.

[SM]: Yeah, and Lost & Found historically hasn't really done a lot of Nicaraguan, so this is outside of their normal wheelhouse. I really think they absolutely killed it. I'm getting a lot of dark chocolate, cedar, leather, and earthy notes to it, and maybe a little bit of citrus. Those flavors are kind of coming through underneath there, so it's a really complex, medium- to- medium-full bodied cigar.

[TC]: You hit the nail on the head for me with the chocolate note. I would even maybe say it's like a creamy, crisp chocolate note, kind of like a Hershey's chocolate bar. It's very rich and very thick in flavor. I'm not very far into this, but you can tell the body of this cigar is definitely going to be that medium plus, the fuller spectrum with the body. I would say additional notes that I get from this are the citrus, especially on the retrohale. I would also say maybe a type of roasted red pepper. Definitely that peppery note is coming through, and I'd also like to say, using the terminology of chocolate, what I find interesting about the shade of the leaf is that it has a really nice, smooth, milky, almost silky texture to the wrapper.

[SM]: Yeah, I think you said it best when you talked about the creaminess of it, it's just like creamy milk chocolate; the wrapper, the flavor, and everything, and then you get the spicy notes in there with the red pepper like you said. There's a lot going on here, and I'm really liking all of it.

[TC]: I'm no fortune teller, but with the little bit I've smoked so far, I can tell this cigar will potentially ramp up in strength. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a very full strength, but I would say maybe going from medium- to- medium plus. This would be great to smoke after dinner. Definitely make sure you have a little food on your stomach when you're smoking this guy.

[SM]: Yeah, this is a great cigar to relax and unwind. You've finished your day. You have a full belly and this to top it off.

[TC]: To me, I would say this cigar has some elegantness about it, but it's also a type of cigar that you can smoke while in your smoking room, sitting on your front porch, wherever you like to smoke, and it's a way to just cut the world off and just sit there and reflect or not even think at all because you can focus on something that is this delicious.

[SM]: Yeah, and it's sort of a full-bodied elegance, which maybe seems like an oxymoron, but I think that's a really great way to put it. It's very smooth and very creamy, but it's still got a kick. You know you're smoking a cigar. It's not lightweight. It's not dainty.

[TC]: That's for sure.

[SM]: It's fairly stout.

[TC]: I like knowing that when I smoke this, I'm getting remnants of the previous flavor that I had, but I'm also getting and tasting something new with every few pops.

[SM]: Yeah, even just the little bit that I've worked my way through on this, it's already changing on me. I'm getting more of the cedar. I think I said dark chocolate when I first started, and it's kind of mellowed into more of a milk chocolate, and I still have a long way to go on this.

[TC]: Being a Perfecto, having two tapered ends and everything, it really goes to show you, for one, the construction is amazing, but also when you think about sizes like this, it's a lot more difficult for the rollers and these manufacturers to make. The complexity stems from the construction in part because the end is opening up as it gets wider, and then, now, it's going to start getting more into that balance as the shape is going to be a little more consistent.

[SM]: Yeah, and I'm getting a smoother draw as it's opening up, with more smoke and flavor in general on my palate. There's a lot more kick when on the retrohale. I'm really impressed with how well this has burned from the very first light.

[TC]: Another point I would like to make is going back to that old philosophy of Lost and Found, most of their stuff, when Robert was releasing cigars, you were buying a new release, but you were buying something that was aged.

[SM]: Yeah, they were very old cigars.

[TC]: Exactly. And here there's an aged tobacco taste.

[SM]: It's mature, for sure. Yeah, I'm tasting some age on this, and you can sense it in the way everything's blended together. There's no real rough edges. Nothing really stands out and it's really smooth. All the different flavors complement each other very nicely. So yeah, with how good this cigar is, I think it's going to be very popular, and it is a very limited release. If you're interested in it, I would definitely jump on it, and yeah, I'm just really excited about this cigar and to be partnering with Lost & Found on such a great release.

[TC]: Absolutely. September 4 is the grand release of Agasaurus cigars from Lost & Found. Get 'em before they're extinct.

[Narrator]: After years of research, paleontologist Robert Caldwell has discovered a new species of dinosaur that could be the closest known relative of the Spinosaurus: Meet Agasaurus. Agasaurus is believed to have roamed the fields and volcanic rock of Central America during the late Cretaceous Period. What set Agasaurus apart was its unique adaptation to its environment, and over time, its elongated spines evolved to support the growth of the surrounding plant life. These spines, originally for display and perhaps thermoregulation, became modified to house tobacco leaves, creating a symbiotic relationship between the dinosaur and the plant. As Agasaurus moved through its habitat, it inadvertently spread tobacco seeds, aiding in the plant's proliferation. This fascinating adaptation highlights the interplay between organisms and their environments to the tobaccos we can enjoy in the new Lost & Found Agasaurus release.
