While there is nothing quite like Eight State, many Burley blends in regular production offer complex flavor profiles and reliable smoking experiences. Here's a selection of some of my favorite boutique Burley blends.

    • I have question. Is a Strawberry Briar Pipe the same quality as a Briar Pipe and is there a difference in the quality of the Pipe.

    • Chuck Stanion on July 24, 2024
    • Michael Tuch: Strawberry wood is an excellent pipe material, but it isn't briar. The only strawberry briar pipes are those carved in the strawberry shape from briar. Strawberry is lighter than briar and possesses remarkable grain, especially when sandblasted. The overall quality of a pipe is dependent on the craftsmanship of the maker, but strawberry wood as a medium is a fine alternative to briar. Some say that it is not as tough or fire-resistant as briar, but I've heard no stories of strawberry wood pipes burning out. Some very reputable makers have employed strawberry, including Scott Thile, Federico Becker, Wolfgang Becker, Vermont Freehand, and Roman Kovalev.
