In today's episode of "All Pipes Considered," I'm happy to talk to you about Peterson's Christmas pipe for 2024, available on September 17 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
The Christmas pipe has been an annual tradition for Peterson since 2009, making this year the 15th edition of the series. We've seen a lot of different variations on the holiday and Christmas theme in the past: classic red and green, several silver editions, and then, starting in 2018, which was a very first for Peterson, they started using copper as an adornment. And that really caught on. There's something about copper that has a warmth and glow that I think is very evocative of the winter holiday season.
This year, they've adorned every Peterson Christmas 2024 pipe with a copper spigot. To tell us more about this, Glen Whelan, Director of Sales over at Kapp and Peterson Pipes, spoke about this year's edition recently:
Christmas is a time for making traditions and it is no different here at Peterson. Now in its 15th edition of the release, our Christmas pipe is a mainstay of our production calendar. Not unlike a Christmas gathering at home, the design process allows us to sit together around the table to collaborate and design. It is a series in which the craftsmen of the factory get a great sense of pride and achievement, knowing that their creations will be used to celebrate the holiday season. For our 15th anniversary, we have used copper spigot accents to represent the warmth and glow typically associated with the Christmas season. This limited release of spigots will be available in our iconic Rustic, Sandblast, Smooth, Heritage, and for the first time in a Christmas release, we will offer Ebony Smooth. These spigots will be offered in all of our classic shapes but in very limited numbers. Nollaig Shona dár gcairde go léir; Merry Christmas to all our friends.
There's a whole smattering of classic Peterson shapes available here and a wide variety of finishes as well. We have the classic rustications with that two-tone color. We have a really nice warm smooth finish, one of Peterson's really awesome darker sandblasts, as well as an Ebony Smooth. I think all of these stains and finishes really work very nicely with the copper spigot as well as the Cumberland pattern acrylic stem that's also featured on every Christmas pipe this year. They collectively have this warm, fireside aesthetic that I think is really going to resonate with Peterson fans all over the globe, including myself. And, of course, they're offered in a wide range of shapes to choose from.

Ordered myself a rustic XL02, and I am quite excited about it. I will say, though, that Peterson seems to have a habit of taking the concept from a previous year's Christmas and then perfecting it in a follow up year. 2019 perfected the concept from 2018, and this year perfects the 2022 concept.
Are all shapes not available in all finishes? I missed my favorite 107s in the 2022 copper spigots along with even a 106 or X105 so I was really looking for a decently sized straight billiard here. Really disappointingly it seems like the only smooth/heritage/ebony straight pipe is the diminutive 102 which is an odd choice for a Peterson release. Especially a 15th commemorative release to lack any of the traditional Peterson billiard muscle outside of one shape available only in rusticated or sandblast.Beautiful release and return to form this year, just really wish Billiards weren't so underrepresented.
Got myself the rusticated 80s! This has been my first year of diving into pipes so I'm beyond excited to get this Christmas pipe. Love the copper spigots on these; can't wait to enjoy a bowl with the boys!
Wow, I love Peterson pipes! The Christmas releases are always something special. I’m curious to see the new designs for 2024!
I started buying these special edition pipes back in 2020. All have been wonderful until the last one. I received the beautiful pipe with sandpaper marks on the metal. The quality control seems to have dropped quite a bit.
