Dan Tobacco - Old Ironsides 50g
Very Good
Beautiful presentation, full bodied, Latakia heavy and complex- smoky and nutty. Lacks a bit of sweetness and somewhat drying but that's much more of a stylistic preference than ding on this superbly crafted blend

Cornell & Diehl - Joie de Vivre 2oz
Reduction followed by joy
When I first popped the tin on this, there was a distinct blocked drain aroma very similar to reductive aromas found in wines with excessive anaerobic maturation which probably makes sense. That blew off pretty quickly and was replaced by a rich smoky sweetness. Full bodied but well balanced with a creamy mouthfeel. Beautiful. I'll be purchasing tins to age, for sure

Peterson - Hyde Park 50g
Lakeland Finesse
The Lake District is my favorite place in the world. Last time I was in Bowness, it was mid-December and most of the tourists were long gone. It was cold, wet and perfect. I had a tin of C&D Star of the East Flake and would sit on the patio of my hotel room looking over Lake Windermere trying desperately to figure out how I could move permanently to the Lakes (still haven't figured it out, by the way). Because of this affinity for the region, I've always desperately wanted to like the Lakeland tobaccos but just haven't been able to- the strange soapiness is too much. This, however, is perfect. The tobacco is such great quality and there's just the slightest floral hint that only adds to the complexity of the blend. This will remain in my rotation...even if a life of luxury in the Lakes appears not to be on the immediate horizon

Bengal Slices - Bengal Slices 1.75oz
Pleasantly Suprised
I had this tobacco in my wish list for quite a while but kept putting it off when it came time to place an order. I wish I had orderd a tin earlier. I never had the chance to try the original Bengal Slices, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this is very nice. Great crumble cake appearance with a smoky, Latakia forward aroma with a hint of star anise. Full, smooth, flavorful and superb. quality.

Perfect?
I've been big on C&D Star of the East Flake recently and absolutely love it. I put this in the same realm and possibly just as good...maybe better? Either way, I could smoke this the rest of my life and be quite content

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East Flake 2oz
Wow
I just finished a tin of Penzance and knowing that I most likely won't see another tin anytime soon scoured the Internet for similar tobaccos. Star of the East Flake kept popping up so I figured I'd give it a go. First bowl in and I have to say, I think I actually prefer this to Penzance. Visually appealing, beautiful aroma, folds easily, lights perfectly, smokes wonderfully.
