Global Pipe-Making Exposition 2024: Bamboo
For the first time ever, the American Pipe-Making Exposition expands to the Global Pipe-Making Exposition, featuring famed artists from around the world. This event focuses on a central pipe-related element that either defines or has been championed by the artisanal pipe-making tradition, with each carver submitting their own signature take on the theme. To celebrate the Expo's 10th anniversary and the first time it's been open to international carvers, this year's motif harkens back to the theme of the very first Exposition: Bamboo.
Bamboo was originally introduced to save briar during wartime scarcities but has since grown to be a staple in modern artisans' workshops around the world. Bamboo is often used to incorporate a contrasting natural medium into a pipe's form but the use of bamboo continues to evolve with every new pipe made. This year, 36 artists from around the globe have created an array of bamboo-inspired pipes, ranging from traditional pipe-chart staples to exotic, organic pieces that incorporate wild knuckles and asymmetric segments. Discover these masterful interpretations today.
