About This Pipe
Originally designed as the Watson shape for the first Sherlock Holmes series back in 1987, the 'XL17' is something of a blend of the bent Oom Paul and Rhodesian shapes. Given that the Oom Paul is named for Paul Kruger and the Rhodesian is named for Cecil Rhodes, there's an irony to that combination that one might think would cause the pipe to suddenly split itself into little pieces lest the naming contradictions just prove too much for it. Perhaps the (arguably) neutral hands of an Irish pipe maker can reconcile those differences. Indubitably, as a shape, it works amazingly well.
