Most of Michal Novak's pieces that I've seen so far have some recognizable traditional shape as a base for their wild sculptural flourishes. Somewhere, maybe, now distantly, the beginings of this particular number were inspired by the old gourd Calabashes. Then the idea was run past the ghost of Salvidor Dali, possibly through the medium of a drunken fortune-teller. Somewhere a handlebar moustache or two may also have been involved. The result is, hands down, the most utterly whimsical and uniquely gestural composition I've ever come across.
