This stunningly, but unsurprisingly, beautiful piece by Peter Heeschen is an example of the ultimate briar selection. Capturing the flame grain and birdseye in all the right places. On this piece, vertical striations grace either side of the shank and flow seamlessly into longer examples of flame grain on the sides of the bowl. Fine birdseye marches along the center length of the shank, and is reiterated in the curved, eye-shaped top of the bowl. Also, the cocobolo band offers a muted extra flash of color. Light in hand without being unsubstantial, this pipe manages the precise compositional task of a slim shank with a very full bowl. The pipe is balanced by its underside; the perfectly uninterrupted curve of the shank to front-most point on the bowl is exceptionally impressive.
